Life just gave us a whole truckload of lemons. If we stay true to the saying, it’s time for us to make lemonade. But HCBS has been seriously affected by coronavirus response. Could there really be an upside to all this chaos? For the world of Home- and Community- Based Care, the answer is yes. Let’s look at 5 ways the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the need for home care.

Caregiver Availability

In our industry, there is no shortage of need for care staff. This provides work for caregivers, as well as great opportunities for anyone filing unemployment to start something new, secure, and meaningful.

Technology is King

The technology to make a difference in virtual and in-home care already exists. Telehealth, EVV, and other methods of indirect communication and record keeping make it possible to manage care without unnecessary exposure.

Limited Exposure

Unlike hospitals or institutional settings, home care means a more intimate setting with less likelihood of exposure. There is far more control, and in the event of an outbreak it is easier to contain.

Public Policy Changes

Legislation seems more and more fluid as we navigate through COVID-19 response. This gives us more opportunity to push for what we need, and see the changes take place quickly.

Thoughts of Expansion

Everyone is starting to look at the power of home health and home care, which means more ideas of how to improve it, and more investment in implementing those methods. Now that all eyes are on us, we can grow in ways that were previously unattainable.
